The Culture at First Call Urology
Where Excellence is the Standard, and Great People Thrive
At First Call Urology, we are building more than just a healthcare company — we're building a place where talented, mission-driven professionals can do the best work of their careers. We believe in excellence, accountability, and creating an environment where our people lift themselves, each other, and our patients higher every day.

Four Core Principles
This culture is anchored in four core principles:
The Elite Crew
People Over Process
Uncomfortably Exciting
Great and Always Better
We don't claim to be perfect, but we are relentless in our pursuit of greatness — both in the care we deliver and the team we build. If this energizes you, you'll likely thrive here. If not, that's okay too — because this isn't the right fit for everyone.
The Elite Crew
It's not just what you do — it's how well you do it together.
The heart of a great workplace is not perks or policies — it's the people. At First Call Urology, our aim is to build and maintain what we call the Elite Crew: a high-functioning, deeply committed group of professionals who are exceptional at their craft and thrive in collaboration.
We don't think of ourselves as a family. Families operate on unconditional ties. We're more like an elite military unit: each team member is here because they've earned their spot — based on talent, integrity, and the ability to execute in high-stakes environments. In this kind of team, accountability runs deep, and mutual respect is the baseline.
Here's what we look for in every member of our Elite Crew:
Selflessness
You care more about getting it right than being right. You help others succeed because you understand the team's success is yours, too.
Judgment
You make thoughtful decisions, especially in the grey areas. You use both data and insight to guide your actions.
Candor
You speak honestly and listen openly. You give feedback that helps others grow, and you seek the same in return.
Creativity
You innovate in care delivery, systems, and thinking. You don't wait for perfect conditions to try something new.
Courage
You take intelligent risks. You're not afraid to challenge old models or speak up when something's not right.
Inclusion
You create space for different voices and experiences. You recognize biases and work to ensure every teammate thrives.
Curiosity
You're a constant learner. You ask good questions, explore fresh ideas, and remain humble about what you don't yet know.
Resilience
You bounce back fast. You adapt to change with grit and keep moving forward, even when it's tough.
We live these values by holding each other — especially our leaders — accountable. We invest in trust, assuming good intent and creating a culture where real-time feedback isn't just encouraged, it's expected. That kind of candor requires vulnerability and mutual respect. But it also creates an environment where growth is possible every day.

The Retention Test
To maintain our standards, we practice what we call the Retention Test:
"If this person wanted to leave, based on what I know now of their work ethic, would I fight to keep them?"
If the answer is no, then we owe that team member a fair, direct conversation. Because in high-stakes, high-performance environments, clarity is kindness — and respect means ensuring the right people are in the right roles.
Talent and excellence are non-negotiable — but so are decency and respect. No matter how skilled someone is, there's no room for ego, toxicity, or disrespect on the Elite Crew.
People Over Process
Trust smart people to make smart decisions.
Many of us have worked in environments where decision-making was slow, top-down, and full of red tape. We're building the opposite.
At First Call Urology, we prioritize context over control. We believe that well-informed, empowered professionals make better decisions than micromanaged ones. So we strive to give people the information and autonomy they need to lead within their roles.
This kind of freedom requires responsibility. We expect our team to act like owners — to be self-motivated, disciplined, and decisive. It doesn't mean hands-off leadership; it means coaching over command, clarity over control, and trusting our people to make the right call.
How We Make Decisions
We avoid decision-by-committee. For significant decisions, we designate an informed captain — someone responsible for listening, evaluating, and making the final call. Once a direction is set, we expect full alignment — what we call "disagree and commit" — followed by postmortem reflection to learn and improve.
Radical Simplicity
We also believe in radical simplicity when it comes to rules. We protect against ethical and legal risks, of course — but otherwise, we keep process minimal and efficient. Our guidelines are built around trust, not bureaucracy.
Vacation policy:
"Take vacation."
Expense policy:
"Act in the company's best interest."
This level of autonomy may feel uncomfortable at first. But in healthcare, where adaptability and innovation are critical, it allows us to move faster, serve patients better, and remain agile as we grow.

Uncomfortably Exciting
Growth doesn't feel safe — it feels bold.
Building a next-generation urology practice — virtual-forward, patient-focused, and high-performance — isn't easy. It's not supposed to be. We're innovating in a complex, regulated industry where comfort often leads to complacency.
At First Call Urology, we thrive in the space between stability and ambition. We encourage experimentation, rapid learning, and the kind of bold thinking that drives breakthroughs in care delivery and operational excellence.
This work can feel uncomfortable. That's the point. We believe that if you're not at least a little bit uncomfortable, you're probably not growing.
We embrace challenges with resilience, creativity, and a deep belief in our mission — because our patients deserve nothing less.
Great and Always Better
We don't preserve culture — we improve it.
First Call Urology is designed to grow, adapt, and evolve — just like the people in it. We are proud of what we've built so far, but we're even more excited about what's possible next.
Our culture is not set in stone. Every new teammate helps reshape and elevate it. Every process, every patient interaction, every internal system is up for rethinking, as long as we're moving toward better outcomes and a stronger team.
We are serious about creating a workplace where high performers can do their life's best work — and where every person on our team feels ownership of our future.
As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once wrote:
"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the people to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."
We're here to build something bold — together.
